How does pregnancy testing work?
A positive pregnancy test, either taken at home or at our center, is an indication of pregnancy but not a confirmation.
The test result should be confirmed by an OB Ultrasound exam. It can confirm your pregnancy and ensure your pregnancy is healthy. It can be a great indicator of how far along you are by using measurements to estimate the gestational age of the fetus.
Pregnancy Options Miami offers a free OB Ultrasound to anyone who had a positive pregnancy test at our center.
What will an ultrasound tell me about my pregnancy?
A Limited OB Ultrasound will tell you:
The approximate age of your pregnancy
Whether the fetus has a heartbeat
How developed the fetus is
Whether your pregnancy is capable of developing under normal conditions
Whether your pregnancy is a potentially life-threatening tubal pregnancy
What is a tubal pregnancy?
A tubal pregnancy, also known as ectopic pregnancy, occurs when the egg implants itself somewhere other than within the uterus, and often within a fallopian tube. It is a potentially fatal condition. A Limited OB Ultrasound will determine whether you require immediate medical attention.
What can I expect at my appointment?
Your ultrasound results will be reviewed by our medical director, a practicing OB/GYN physician. A friend or family member may accompany you to your appointment if you would feel more comfortable having them there.
Following the ultrasound, staff will be available to address any questions or concerns you may have, as well as to provide the support you will need as you consider your options.
